Hi guys! It's me Chee yung, today we're going to look at some interior design trends. 2020 was a particularly unique year because we all spent so much time at home due to the pandemic. It has definitely had an impact on the type of homes we want to create. Rather than pack everything away in the name of minimalism, I think "Comfort" is now at the centre of interior design. Creating looks that feel peaceful, natural and soft are helping us build a more inviting home where we feel cozier. So I think some of the trends that we're going to see emerging now will definitely reflect what happened last year. To help you guys to design a dream home, let me bring you through some elements that you should consider in your design.

So what will be the first thing that comes to your sight? It's COLOUR. Colours play a crucial character in interior design as they can make and break your design, matching the look and atmosphere of the house that evokes human emotions in place with the current trend.
We have easily seen some popular colour palettes in cool tones such as Grey tones, Dark tones were implied in plenty of commercial buildings on the street, which creates a sense of simplicity and sophistication. However, a very different phenomenon has emerged in our lives in 2021.

The global anxiety and panic due to the Pandemic led people inclined to their own inner space, creating a warm "nest" for the sense of security. So, more lively and warm tones appear in designs, which could be yellow, warm orange, neutral, beige or earthy tones. This trend is applicable in the fashion industry, not just limited to interior design and decoration.

You must be curious, how should I choose the colour for my house? Does it suit my style? Let's look at what the world's leading colour experts are predicting with the colour of the year. Pantone 2021 has nominated ultimate grey and illuminating shades for their warmth and dependability.

Dulux has chosen Brave Ground as Colour of 2021, a warm and elemental neutral colour that brings a bolstering, balancing feel to any room, a versatile shade that lets other colours shine.

Sherwin William has nominated Urbane Bronze as colour of the year 2021, which captures the simple sophistication every space is searching for. These colour palettes that apply on the wall or ceiling in such a large area can quickly transform the feeling of the space.

What's next? Let's talk about the curve for the second element. Curves are one of the biggest interior trends of 2021, and it's easy to see the appeal; shapely furniture feels plush, inviting and adds a sense of softness to a room. In the 2000s and 2010s, straight lines and hard edges conveyed a feeling of stability and efficiency.

When entering a new decade in the recent global pandemic, interiors that soothe and cocoon are key. An appetite for rounded contours has been partly fuelled, it's not surprising we're an option for comforting curves. Olives Haslegrave, the founder of Home Studios, said "Curves are welcoming and have a stronger emotional impact than rectilinear space." It could also improve the flow of a room and make it seem bigger, a comfortable and casual vibe in a home with the bones of fewer hard edges to bump into.

This element is not just essential for the building structure, those daily used furniture can be part of the influence too. Puffy sofas and comfy chairs are definitely defining the trends in 2021, as well as circular furniture, arch mirrors, artwork, and more. This kind of rounded furnishing offers a sense of clarity, precision and freshness to a space.

If you're in a place where you can't introduce any new furniture, bring these curbs into your home. You can definitely still introduce this trend by hanging artwork with very soft shapes or sculptural artwork that are soft and abstract.

Continuing along with the trend of organic shapes. These organic, attractive shapes replace boxy edges and precise lines previously stapled in the latest interior design trends.

The organic shape is also a shape that we're seeing a lot. Contoured walls, rounded windows or archways, and decorative patterns, furnishings and accessories with rounded edges and tubular forms.

I really love the way this trend takes, evolved from the art deco movement, but they're reimagined and reinvented with a modern twist. These organic shapes with a more feminine touch helping to balance out and beautifully contrast with hard surfaces such as concrete. Obviously, changing the structure of your home is not an easy task to undertake, but you can still absolutely incorporate this trend by introducing art-shaped items, like some of these, you can also paint arch murals behind certain elements in your home that you might want to highlight.
