Display Shelves

IMG_5735_edited.jpg

This display shelf idea is friendly and affordable for house renters who want to create a minimalist look of display shelves, ideally without requiring any drilling and wall mount that might cause holes in the wall. It easily creates a cozy vibe that can be placed against the wall directly at any corner of your house.

Note: All the materials can easily purchase from IKEA in this project.

Material used

WORKTOP SELECTION:

1. LILLTRÄSK,  246cm X 63.5cm X 2.8cm,  202.806.60,  A$79

This panel is made of particleboard, also known as chipboard which is pressed and extruded. Therefore, the LILLTRÄSK worktop is undoubtedly heavier compared with the others. Two shorter lengths are available to choose from, 186CM(A$59) or 123CM(A$39). There are other alternative options to select from besides LILLTRÄSK, EKBACKEN has several colours and effects to choose from, and the LINNMON tabletop is more affordable with different qualities.

2. EKBACKEN,  246cm X 63.5cm X 2.8cm,  703.376.21,  A$99

EKBACKEN is similar to LILLTRÄSK. The huge advantage of EKBACKEN is several colour options available to select from with different surface effects, but only one alternative size is available, 186X 63.5X 2.8M (A$79). Same material as LILLTRÄSK but slightly higher rate.

3. LINNMON,  200cm X 60cm X 3.4cm,  003.617.56,  A$40

LINNMON has three colour options such as white stained oak effect, pure white or dark grey. LINNMON's price is way lower compared to LILLTRÄSK as the filling material is Honeycomb structure paper filling with a minimum of 70% recycled Therefore, it is very light lifting, and heavy decoration would not be suitable to be displayed on it. But it will be ideal to use as a small magazine rack on any desk or cabinet top.

Personally, I would prefer LILLTRÄSK or Ekbacken as they have solid filling and more value to be sold in the future. Are you struggling to make your own decision right now? Don't worry, this information is provided to narrow down your direction of selection. It just depends on your design concept, space limitation and personal preference when making decisions.

DISPLAY SHELVES SELECTION:

MALMBÄCK,  60cm X 12cm,  804.463.37,  A$10

MALMBÄCK is made of steel with powder coating, only white colour available.

MOSSLANDA,  55cm X 12cm,  302.974.67,  A$7

Mosslanda is made from fibreboard, three colour options are available. Malmback is still a better option with a slightly higher price if you prefer a stronger industrial touch on your magazine board.

TOOLS:

White Screws X8, Tape, Drill, Measuring tape, Pencil

Screws colour can be optional as it depends on the worktop or display shelves colour to make a match. Please ensure the length should not exceed 2.8CM if you choose either LILLTRÄSK or EKBACKEN.

STEP

  1. Measure your panel & display shelves accordingly with measuring tape

  2. Place a removable mark on the panel with a pencil

  3. Accurately place the display shelf on the mark and fix the position with tape

  4. Drilling a hole on your panel that is easy when you install the display shelf with the screw.

  5. Done! Ready to be displayed.

TIPS

  1. I would suggest the gap between both display shelves is at least 35cm difference. Ideally, use a book that you plan to place on the shelf to measure(a standard A4 size paper is 29.7CM). Therefore an extra 5cm gap between the book and display shelf will be easier to place or be removed for the user's convenience.

  2. Besides that, this DIY project has to use a drill rather than a screwdriver. Especially if you have chosen LILLTRÄSK or Ekbacken panels for the display shelf as they have a solid filling, drilling will be required before installing.

  3. Worktop can be purchased in any other outlet at your own convenience. Ikea is recommended as they have more options, and the price is more reasonable compared to Bunnings.

  4. If the Linnmon tabletop was used as the shelf and there are kids or pets around your home, permanently attached to the wall will be recommended.
